Mission

Thirty years ago, the AYF Western Region established its official publication, Haytoug, as a medium for Armenian American youth to voice their opinions about a wide variety of issues. What initially began as a newsletter eventually evolved into a quarterly magazine with over 100 issues to its name.

As the popularity of the magazine grew over the years so, too, did its quality and scope. Beginning in 2008, Haytoug debuted for the first time in full color and made its vast archives available online. It also expanded its team of volunteers and introduced a subscription system for readers to receive the magazine by mail.

Today, with an international following and a distribution network spanning across the United States, the magazine reaches more people than ever before. With its high quality of content and design, it is widely recognized as the leading platform for young Armenians to make their voice heard.

Haytoug is committed to stimulating thought and offering a fresh interpretation of the social, political, cultural and economic conditions of the Armenian nation. As the flagship publication of the Armenian Youth Federation, we are guided in our mission by the following core set of values:

Youth Empowerment

  • Haytoug is, and always will be, a magazine produced by and for the Armenian youth. Its entire operation—from deciding on content to distribution and marketing—is completely run by youth.

Cutting Edge

  • Our focus is on covering underreported stories and addressing critical issues that are often left overlooked by other media outlets.
  • We strive to make every issue stand alone as a unique source of stimulating, original material that cannot be found elsewhere.

Public Service

  • We are committed to the moral, social and intellectual advancement of the entire Armenian community.
  • As such, Haytoug is distributed entirely free of charge throughout the community as a service to the public.

Diversity of Thought

  • The opinions expressed in the Haytoug are not solely those of the AYF. Submissions to the publication are open to all Armenian youth and the Haytoug team constantly reaches out to different segments of the community to have their thoughts and opinions expressed.

Community Engagement

  • Our goal is to not only serve as a forum for the youth to express their views; it is to inspire readers to get involved and make a difference in their community.
