AYF France Confronts Saakashvili on Javakhk
On his recent visit to France, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili gave a talk at the Paris Institute of Political Science, where he sought to paint a picture of his regime being a bastion of democracy in the Caucuses.
There was just one hitch in his plan: members of the AYF in France (ARF Nor Seround) were in the audience to challenge him on his government’s ongoing violations of the cultural and human rights of Armenians living in Javakhk.
The Nor Seround members asked him when his government was going to stop its policies of discrimination and repression against Armenians, and heed the calls of the UN Human Rights Committee and Council of Europe to promote the participation of national minorities in the political and cultural life of Georgia.
Regrettably, Saakashvili’s response was one of arrogance and ignorance, claiming that Armenians in Javakhk were satisfied with their conditions and that everything was fine. Such a detachment from reality and denial of the facts has been a sad hallmark of Georgian state policy.
This head-in-the-sand approach is ill-advised and can only lead to greater discontent and tension. It is high time for Saakashvili to live up to his rhetoric of democracy, end the repression against activists in Javakhk and ensure equal representation and cultural rights for the Armenian population.

What do you guys imply? that Georgia should have Armenian States?? Armenians in Georgia leave as equal, i am half Georgian half Armenian and i fee as i am a true part of Georgian state, i do not wan to have anyone like you guys to put a new ethnic conflict here, so stop posting wrong and awful reports / material here! If you want war in Armenia, Leave Georgia alone, as Turkey and Azeraijan are waiting to start Armenia Wipe out Project and Georgia , the only friend in Region would not hesitate to take on Armenia if this becomes needed. As for Russia, They already learned lesson that war brings millions of Rubles to be washed out in the river so they will never do it again.
You’re not just detached from your Armenian roots, but from reality as well. As far as Georgia being our friends in region….I rather have them as enemies than friends. At least I’ll know what to expect from them.
Just because you are half Armenian and half Georgian does not mean that Armenians in Georgia are living equally.
When the Georgian President forbids Armenian books to enter to Javakh, when allocated funds from EU to Javakh does not reach, when Armenian activists are in jails…
It is not your choice or the Georgians like you to decide the faith of the Javakh Armenians.
When they see time is right to revolt to defend their rights no one can stop them. No one wants war, war is ugly and painfull. But know one thing Otto, things are and will change in all Caucasus region, in that change Armenia will create Free, Independant and United Armenia with one nation and one homeland.
Otto, you sound like an idiot and a pethetic excuse for an Armenian if you really even are one.
The only stable country in the Caucasus is Armenia, not your bananna republic aka georgia, nor the emirite of baku. Don’t be surprised if the bananna republic loses more parts and disappears into the annals of history.
Otto
All I want to know is whether you could tolerate Armenians in Georgia to keep their national identity and not be forcibly converted to Georgians the way you have done to so many of your other minorities in Georgia.
